PROJECT STATEMENT

To design a sleek soccer boot that encapsulates the identity of performance that will amplify characteristics such as agility, longevity and fluid motion to achieve a revolutionary goal to out perform its competitors.

INSPIRATION

During this project I wanted to draw inspiration from many different aspects of life, which fuse together to ultimately drive my design process and design thinking. The core elements I stole inspiration from were the animal kingdom, hyper cars, and irregular architecture. Animals like cheetahs demonstrate aggressive acceleration while cars like the Koenigsegg CC850 reflect elegance and poise at such high speeds. Lastly, architecture from the infamous Harbin Opera House greatly influenced my creative thinking as the entire building resembles motion and fluidity.

ACTIVITIES

The overall purpose of this boot is to enhance performance and drive the industry into the future by trying something new, and with this in mind, the key activities each soccer athlete performs are aggressive dribbling/sliding, acceleration and deceleration, and lastly leaping.

PROBLEMS

During these activities, athletes tend to incur a lot of injuries, and to prevent further failures the silhouette must address problems such as lack of traction, feel for the ball and injury prevention. I must take into account all of these performance factors and incorporate them into the overall design.

SOLUTIONS

The solutions to these key design problems would be to incorporate an aggressive outsole and traction pattern which can adhere to all surfaces from grass to turn and also add a flexible lacing system which can help prevent ankle contusions and benefit the overall fit of the silhouette and lastly map materials which can help drive performance standards of the silhouette.

IDEATION

FINAL IDEATION CONCEPT

Presented are my final orthographic viewpoints, which highlight all areas of the silhouette, and a few key takeaways I want to emphasize are the rigid grooves, which are on the medial and lateral sides of the boot and are in the mid-foot and forefoot to help reinforce contact with the soccer ball. Also, I want to address the rigid diamond pattern in the forefoot, which is meant for aggressive contact with the ball and durability while playing. Lastly, I would like to highlight the multi-functional traction pattern allowing for effective play on firm ground and artifical grass.

CONSTRUCTION DETAILS & MATERIALS

During my Ideation process I wanted to keep in mind enhanced performance throughout the silhouette. The purpose of this boot is to allow the player to move effortlessly with each stride and this is seen with the aggressive traction pattern, and carbon fiber plate. Also I incorperated an Ariaprene Pro fabric which allows for maximum stretch and compression capabilities and this is used as the underlay to help with a secure fit. Another key takeway with the materials is the Gripknit overlay which will allow for maximum ball control and touch when navigating the pitch.

COLOR STORIES

This color story is named Calm and Chaos to represent the idea of fluid motion and a soccer players flow state which is reached through peak performance and complete immersion while on the pitch. I chose colors such as deep ocean blue, emerald green and light silver to represent this idea of pure motion. I wanted this story to embody the emotions of dedication, resilience and compassion each player feels while training and playing wanting to become the best in this world and that is what this entire silhouette embodies.

I wanted to focus on one color story and adapt different variations of this story into the silhouette to represent how versatile this soccer boot can be when it comes to colorways and expression throughout the silhouette.
